Distinguished Fellows of AAI

This honor is bestowed by AAI to recognize members for distinguished careers and outstanding scientific contributions as well as their service to AAI and the immunology community. It honors active, long-term members (25 or more years of cumulative membership) who, in addition to their service to AAI, have demonstrated one or more of the following: excellence in research accomplishment in the field of immunology; exceptional leadership to the immunology community in academia, foundations, nonprofits, industry, or government at a national or international level; and/or notable distinction as an educator.

Member nominations are not accepted. This honor is conferred at the discretion of the AAI Council, which selects the most highly accomplished members from a list of individuals meeting the core membership, engagement, and service criteria at the time of selection. The Council considers the extent to which a member has engaged with AAI through (including but not limited to) combinations of the following:  repeated attendance at AAI annual meetings; volunteer service on committees, task forces, and working groups; active engagement as faculty in AAI programs or as AAI representatives to outside organizations; service to the AAI journals as an editor; participation in AAI advocacy programs; and other volunteer roles offered by the association. Preference is given to members who have provided significant service to or actively engaged with AAI.

The Council reserves the right to honor individuals who do not meet all stated criteria, if their accomplishments in some areas are deemed to be exceptional. Current voting members of the AAI Council are not eligible to be considered for this honor.

Among the highest honors bestowed by AAI, new Distinguished Fellows are identified annually and bear the designation "DFAAI” so long as they remain members in good standing (including Emeritus).
