AAI-Thermo Fisher Trainee Achievement Award

This award recognizes up to 6 promising trainees in the field of immunology. Selection is based on career promise and presentation of an outstanding first-author abstract selected for oral presentation in a Block Symposium. This award is generously supported by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Awardees will receive a $1,000 cash prize and reimbursement for meeting expenses (registration, travel, and lodging at an AAI-designated hotel) up to $1,250. Awardees will be recognized and presented with their awards at the AAI Business Meeting and Awards Presentation at IMMUNOLOGY2023™. This award may not be combined with other awards or grants for the AAI annual meeting.
Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must meet all of these requirements:
- Be an AAI Trainee member paid through the end of 2023 at the time of application submission.
- Have completed the submission of a first-author abstract (oral and poster) to IMMUNOLOGY2023™ prior to application. Be sure to select the option during abstract submission that indicates you are willing to make an oral (Block Symposium) presentation at the meeting.
Application Instructions
Please submit award application by logging into your AAI member account at https://account.aai.org, choosing Award Application in the Member Services menu, and selecting Apply Now for the applicable award in the award list. All documents should be uploaded as a single combined PDF file with a file name of less than 25 characters. Please be aware that the single, combined PDF must be no larger than 20MB. Packages that are not complete will not be considered.
Please include the following in the application package:
- A cover letter (not to exceed two (2) pages) clearly designating “AAI-Thermo Fisher Trainee Achievement Award” and including the following information:
- Full name (first, middle initial, last)
- Title and affiliation
- Current mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address
- A brief statement of applicant’s research goals
- Applicant’s curriculum vitae, including current funding and past AAI awards (NIH Biosketch style)
- A copy of the abstract submitted to IMMUNOLOGY2023™ (including the abstract control ID number, title, complete author list in order, and body text)
- One (1) letter of recommendation from applicant’s advisor/mentor
- A completed Trainee Certification Form (PDF) signed by applicant’s advisor or department chair
Complete application packages must be received by 11:59 PM Eastern on December 19, 2022. Packages must be uploaded as a single combined PDF file through your AAI member account at https://account.aai.org. Incomplete application packages or applications that do not comply with the stated instructions will not be considered. AAI will not accept materials sent separately, through regular mail, or by email. Final award decisions are at the discretion of AAI.
According to U.S. law, any AAI award recipient receiving monetary awards totaling $600 or more in a single year must provide AAI with a completed Form W-9 or a Form W-8BEN (as appropriate) in advance of receiving the cash award.
