The 2019-2020 Public Policy Fellows Gather Early in the Morning for a Full Day of Hill Visits.
 

The members of the 2019–2020 AAI Public Policy Fellows Program (PPFP) traveled to Washington, D.C., in early March 2020 to meet with their federal legislators and discuss the importance of a robust NIH and biomedical research enterprise. The Fellows also had the opportunity to communicate important messages about the novel coronavirus and the disease that it causes (COVID-19) at a time when cases were just starting to be diagnosed in the United States. In total, the Fellows met with members or staff from 28 Congressional offices.

The Fellows were accompanied by AAI Committee on Public Affairs (CPA) Chair Ross Kedl; CPA Member and Advocacy Programs Subcommittee Chair Judy Cannon; AAI Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs Lauren Gross; and, AAI Manager of Science Policy and Legislative Affairs Jake Schumacher.

The 2018-2019 AAI Public Policy Fellows visited Congress on March 20, 2019, for the eighth Public Policy Fellows Program (PPFP) Capitol Hill Day. The Fellows met with 29 Congressional offices, a new record for PPFP Hill Day, to discuss the importance of immunology research and a strong NIH.

The seventh annual AAI Public Policy Fellows Program (PPFP) Capitol Hill Day was held on March 14, 2018, during a very busy time on Capitol Hill as Congress worked to finalize its omnibus appropriations bill for fiscal year 2018. The Fellows visited 26 House and Senate offices to make the case for a large funding increase for NIH and to discuss the importance of the research they are doing at their institutions.

The Fellows were joined on Capitol Hill by AAI Committee on Public Affairs (CPA) Chair Beth Garvy; CPA member and Advocacy Programs Subcommittee Chair Lisa Borghesi; AAI Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs Lauren Gross; and AAI Manager of Science Policy and Legislative Affairs Jake Schumacher.
