Distinguished Fellows of AAI

The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) proudly announces the 2020 Distinguished Fellows of AAI. This program, established in 2019, annually recognizes members for distinguished careers and outstanding scientific contributions as well as service to AAI and the immunology community.

Meet the Class of 2020  

Thomas F. Gajewski, M.D., Ph.D. (AAI ’96) is awarded the 2019 ESMO Immuno-Oncology Award for his groundbreaking work uncovering why some are resistant to immunotherapy and how to restore the anti-cancer immune response.
Hannes Stockinger, Ph.D. (AAI ’96) is awarded the Karl Landsteiner Medal by the Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology, for his service to the field of immunology.
Former AAI president (2012-2013) Gail A. Bishop, Ph.D. (AAI ’84) is named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the field of immunology, particularly for insights into regulation of T and B lymphocyte activation.
Jennifer Martinez, Ph.D. (AAI ’17) receives the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on outstanding early-career scientists who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.
David W. Scott, Ph.D. (AAI ’73) receives National Hemophilia Foundation honors as Murray Thelin Researcher of the Year.
Barry P. Sleckman, M.D., Ph.D. (AAI ’00) is named to lead the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
