2007 AAI Awardees

Ellen S. Vitetta, Ph.D., (AAI '74) received the AAI Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of distinguished scientific accomplishment and extraordinary service to the AAI.  

  • Dr. Vitetta has established a career of leading and sustained accomplishments in basic science and in the development of innovative immunotherapeutic modalities.  Her distinguished scientific achievement, passionate dedication to mentoring, and outstanding service to the AAI, including as past president, are reflected in her receipt of AAI’s highest honor. 

Olivia M. Martinez, Ph.D., (AAI '91) received the AAI Distinguished Service Award for dedicated leadership as Director of the AAI Advanced Course in Immunology (2004-2006). 

  • Dr. Martinez provided exemplary leadership of AAI Advanced Courses in Immunology by creating a dynamic learning experience for all participants.  Her efforts helped promote the AAI mission and dedication to outstanding professional education.


 

2006 AAI Awardees

Laurie H. Glimcher, M.D., (AAI '83) was honored with the AAI-Huang Foundation Meritorious Career Award for outstanding research contributions to the field of immunology.

Leslie J. Berg, Ph.D., (AAI ' 94) received AAI's Distinguished Service Award for dedicated leadership as the Chair of the AAI Program Committee from 2003 to 2006.


2005 AAI Awardees

Elizabeth D. Mellins, M.D., (AAI '83) received the AAI Distinguished Service Award for dedicated leadership as Director of the AAI Advanced Course in Immunology from 2002 to 2004.

Jennifer A. Punt, V.M.D., Ph.D., (AAI '83) received AAI's Distinguished Service Award for outstanding teaching and assistance with developing the AAI Introductory Course Curriculum.

 


Former Trainee's Nobel Prize Prompts Vitetta Article Examining Achievement Among Women Scientists

An article authored by Ellen S. Vitetta, Ph.D., (AAI '74), and published in the October 27, 2004, issue of The Dallas Morning News, spotlighted the awarding of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Medicine to Dr. Vitetta's former trainee, Dr. Linda Buck.  The article explores the accomplishments and unique challenges associated with women physicians and scientists generally.  By kind permission of Dr. Vitetta and The Dallas Morning News, the article is re-printed in the December 2004 AAI Newsletter beginning on page 9.

 



Bishop Recognized as Outstanding University of Iowa Faculty Mentor
 

Gail A. Bishop, Ph.D., (AAI ‘84) was honored recently by the University of Iowa with an Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award, recognizing exemplary mentoring efforts in graduate education. Additional information regarding this award is available at

Murasko Named to NSBRI Panel

AAI Women Elected to National Academy (2003)


Congratulations to Diane J. Mathis, Ph.D., (AAI ’99) and A. Catharine Ross, Ph.D., (AAI ’01) who were among those elected in 2003 to the National Academy of Sciences.

 


 

Wu receives Cinader Award
 

Gillian Wu, Ph.D., (AAI '96) received the 2003 Cinader Award from the Canadian Society for Immunology.  This award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to Immunology as well as to the Society.  She is also Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science at York University.

Judith A. Owen, Ph.D., (AAI  ‘87) received an AAI Excellence in Mentoring Award in recognition of exemplary contributions to the careers of a future generation of scientists.

 

Pamela S.
