Former Vitetta Trainee Dr. Linda Buck is 2004 Nobel Laureate
On October 4, 2004, the
Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden,
announced that Dr. Linda Buck, along with Dr. Richard Axel of
Columbia University, won the
2004 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their
discoveries of odorant receptors and the organization of the
olfactory system."
Dr. Buck, who pursued
her doctorate in immunology at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center in Dallas under the direction of Dr. Ellen S. Vitetta,
was a psychology and microbiology double major at the University of
Wisconsin.
