“Peer Review
at NIH: Making Sure the System Works”
Sunday, April 6, 2008
In June 2007,
the NIH began a months-long examination of its current peer review
system, with the goal of “optimizing its efficiency and effectiveness,
and to ensure that the NIH will be able to continue to meet the needs of
the research community and public-at-large.” After consulting with the
research community and other relevant stakeholders, the NIH has proposed
and/or implemented changes - big and small - that will have an effect on
every NIH grant applicant, on every scientist who serves on an NIH study
section, and on the future of biomedical research funding in the United
States.
