Committee Role
The AAI Education
Committee is dedicated to promoting science education and helping its
members in science outreach activities. This page is dedicated to those
efforts.
We sponsor a
Summer Research Program for Teachers and make available the exercises produced by former
participants. In addition, on this page we will present additional exercises
that can be used at different K-12 grade levels, as well as how to advice
in mentoring a teacher or student or visiting a school in your area. Potential
mentors are encouraged to contact Dr. Brian A. Cobb, Ph.D.
(Assistant Professor, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine,
Department of Pathology/Room 6532, Wolstein Research Building, 10900
Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106-7288; Tel: (216) 368-1263; Fax: (216)
368-0494; brian.cobb@case.edu) or Michael Cuddy
at AAI headquarters, for additional materials.

In addition,
other programs involving immunologists are at these websites:
Rochester
Science Mentoring Program is about a local alliance and mentoring
program at the University of Rochester.
Another useful
site is "Access Excellence,"
a national educational program, sponsored by Genentech, that puts high
school biology teachers in touch with scientists, colleagues, and sources
of new scientific information through its on-line network.
Finally, there
is an excellent book, SCIENCE EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS,
by Art Sussman (Univ. California, 1993) which tells how to get started
with these programs! It describes a number of things you can do in your
district. Pick and choose!
