June 22 - 28, 2007 -- University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Course Director: Terri M. Laufer, M.D.,
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

Under the direction of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine faculty member Dr. Terri Laufer, outstanding teachers and researchers in immunology lecture on the basic principles of their respective areas.  These lectures are presented in a complete but comprehensible manner for students new to the discipline or seeking more information to complement general biology or science training.

Part I (June 23-25) is a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles of immunology and is suitable for students with a general biology background. Part I is not intended for those with extensive course work or research experience in immunology. For advanced students, AAI offers the AAI Advanced Course in Immunology, (August 4-9, 2007, University of Minnesota).

Part II (June 26-28) is a lecture course covering major areas of immunology in more depth and requires an understanding of the basic principles of immunology.  Attendance in Part I prepares students to sit for Part II.

Parts I and II may be taken independently at the discretion of the student.

Course Objective/Target Audience

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to 1) discuss the research underway and/or the current topics relevant to their areas of interest in immunology; 2) demonstrate a gained level of insight into the methods being used by researchers and practitioners in this field; and 3) more fluently discuss areas of interest and interact with speakers and instructors.  This course is targeted to clinical practitioners, research scientists, and biomedical education professionals.

Financial support for underrepresented minority scientists is available through the FASEB MARC program.

Attendance is limited.  Overseas applicants are advised to apply early for visas.  For information, visit http://travel.state.gov/visa.

The AAI Introductory Course in Immunology is sponsored by The American Association of Immunologists, the largest and most prestigious association in the world for professional scientists engaged in basic and clinical immunological research.
