AAI 2009 Introductory Course in Immunology

Under the direction of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine faculty member Dr. Terri Laufer, outstanding teachers and researchers in immunology will lecture on the basic principles of their respective areas.  These lectures are presented in a complete but comprehensible manner for students new to the discipline or seeking more information to complement general biology or science training.

Part I (June 19-22) is a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles of immunology and is suitable for students with a general biology background. Part I is not intended for those with extensive course work or research experience in immunology. For an advanced course, AAI is offering the AAI Advanced Course in Immunology, July 26-31, 2009, at the University of Minnesota.

Part II (June 22-25) will cover major areas of immunology in more depth and will require an understanding of the basic principles of immunology.  Attendance in Part I will prepare students to sit for Part II.

Parts I and II may be taken independently at the discretion of the student.

Financial support for underrepresented minority scientists is available through the FASEB MARC Program. The FASEB MARC application deadline has passed (June 1, 2009).

The AAI Introductory Course in Immunology is sponsored by The American Association of Immunologists, the largest and most prestigious association in the world for professional scientists engaged in basic and clinical immunological research.

At the Course

  • Registration packet pickup, Keynote Address, and a reception for Part I will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at The Inn at Penn Hotel, 3600 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA. The course continues on Saturday morning, June 21, at 8:30 a.m. at the University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Research Building II/III (BRBII/III) Auditorium on the Medical School Campus, 421 Curie Blvd.
     
  • Registration packet pickup for Part II will be held from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22, at the University of Pennsylvania, Biomedical Research Building II/III (BRBII/III) Lobby on the Medical School Campus, 421 Curie Blvd. Part II begins on Tuesday morning, June 23 at the same location. Students taking both course parts do not need to register again on Monday afternoon.
