FOR 2008!

The AAI TRAINEE ABSTRACT AWARD

Great new opportunity for AAI Trainee Members!!

AAI is pleased to announce a new award for AAI Trainee Members (students and post doctoral fellows).  Any AAI Trainee Member is eligible if they have submitted a first-author abstract to the upcoming AAI annual meeting and it gets selected for presentation in a Block Symposium (oral session).

To be eligible for consideration, an abstract submitter must also be an AAI Trainee Member in good standing by the abstract submission deadline of November 7, 2007.

Selected Trainee Members will receive a cash award of $500.  Attendance at the meeting is mandatory and the first author must make the presentation.  Awards will be distributed from the AAI Business Office in the San Diego Convention Center.

If you are not yet a Trainee Member, simply click here and follow the instructions to join.

FAQs

Q: What does it mean to be selected for a Block Symposium?
A: Every abstract submitted to the meeting is reviewed by a team of AAI members expert in that field.  These Block Chairs select outstanding abstracts for oral presentation at the meeting.  This honor highlights exciting science.

Q: How do I indicate I want to be considered for this award?
A: Simply check the box that says you are willing to make an oral presentation at the meeting.  NOTE: If you select “POSTER ONLY”, you will NOT be considered for this award.

Q: If I am selected for an oral session and cannot attend the meeting, will I still get the $500?
A: No, sorry.  Conditions of the award require that you attend the meeting and make the presentation in person.

Q: Can someone else make my presentation for me?
A: Occasionally someone else makes a presentation due to a legitimate emergency situation; however, the cash award will not be given to them or to the author who does not present.

Q: What if I have more than one abstract and they are BOTH selected for an oral presentation in Block Symposia?
A: Then you will receive two awards!

Q: I think I am already a Trainee Member (or I used to be!)  How can I check?
A: Send an email to infoaai@aai.org and AAI staff will let you know.

Q: I don’t have any publications yet, can I still become a Trainee Member?
A: Yes! There is no publication requirement! You must be enrolled in a graduate program and have a mentor or department chair vouch for you (and sign the Trainee Certification Form).

Q: How much does it cost to become a Trainee Member?
A: $64 for the year – and this includes a personal subscription to The Journal of Immunology (electronic access), a subscription to the AAI Newsletter, reduced registration fees to AAI meetings and courses, regular AAI mailings and e-mail alerts, and more.

Q: How long do I have to wait to become a Trainee Member?
A: Trainee members are approved and enrolled as soon as we receive a completed application, a signed Trainee Certification form, and payment.
