For significant and sustained achievement in immunology research pertinent to human disease pathogenesis, prevention, and therapy

Dr. Waldmann is being honored for a distinguished career focused primarily on human immunology. Over several decades his research has yielded many fundamental discoveries, especially in the cytokine field concerning IL-2, IL-15, and their receptors. This knowledge has culminated in a number of immunotherapeutic strategies currently under development.


  AAI-HUANG FOUNDATION MERITORIOUS CAREER AWARD
For outstanding research contributions to the field of immunology

Frederick W. Alt, Ph.D., HHMI Investigator, CBR Institute for Biomedical Research, Harvard Medical School; Children's Hospital Boston -- http://www.hhmi.org/research/investigators/alt_bio.html

Dr. Alt’s research career has produced a series of groundbreaking discoveries regarding immune receptor gene assembly and expression. This body of work has had a major impact in immunology, cancer biology, and DNA recombination and repair.


  AAI-BD BIOSCIENCES INVESTIGATOR AWARD
For outstanding, early-career research contributions to the field of immunology

Dr. von Andrian is an international leader in the development of the methodology of intravital imaging used to explore immune cell interactions. Through the application of this method, he has made important contributions to our understanding of immune responses.
